Meeting Minutes April 3, 2003Meeting start time: 8:10 -16 voting members present at the meeting. -Shaun Hoppel gives his speech -has work related experience with money in previous jobs and positions -was the SISH representative and has a familiarity with SA -will be open to learn, and available to do the job. Q/A How will you help the organization get out of debt? -calling for donations, something as far as he was aware hasn’t been tried -fundraising initiatives with member input/ideas. What are your thoughts on current Treasurer? -no problems, however, toward the beginning of the year didn’t really know who treasurer was, has a goal to have a better presence in the office. -Shaun wants to take this chance to give back to the club and get involved.-Rachel Parrino addresses members. -her mission in the office is reaching out, helping people, involvement in education of the university community, as well as welcoming new members. -she would like to continue events, but would like to get them planned and in motion earlier and with greater member participation. Q/A What are some ideas you have that would help us get out to the community? -continuing the GRASP program, trying to get requests, send out publicity to community. Also involvement with other organizations, building bonds with others schools. -In closing Rachel restates her main points and goals: fundraising, organizing events, continuing her job in the new year and maintaining accessibility.-Meeting turns to business while they wait for Ryan Furrey our presidential nominee. Day of Silence -coming up on next Thursday, April 9th -we are wearing black and white clothes. If you don’t have black pants, wear something dark, our intention is not to make a big deal out of it. -rainbow arm bands have been made and will be given out on Tuesday to those interested as well as the day of the event. -anyone who doesn’t feel comfortable can participate in any way they feel comfortable. -cards will be available to everyone who would like to help out. -extra arm bands will be available to outside people who want to participate. -the office will be closed for the day, during the hours of the event. We would like to encourage people to go out and be visible, want to congregate downstairs in union through out the day. -a symbolic breaking will take place in the union around 5pm for anyone interested. -as far as publicity of the event, sub-board I has the union booked all week so we cannot get a table in the union and therefore can’t had flyers out inside the union. -on Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th we do have the table outside of UGL from 10-4 -please sign up to help at the table, and to help with flyer around campus as soon as posters are available.-Ryan arrives and is given his time to address the club. -3 year member, and has seen several e-boards. -knows and has seen some of the problems within the organization. -no major plans to speak of, but intends to organize over the summer. -jokes that we won’t be declaring war on any other organizations. Q/A What do you see as the biggest problem? -member apathy; wants to get involvement in the next year, possibly through more group decision making. What are you feelings about the “click-ness” of the office? -it happens, we can try to limit but they isn’t too much that can be done. What is one project or something you would like to do for the LGBTA? -get some speakers next year that have a real message, and aren’t just pretty. -Ryan also echoes a desire to work with other schools Money management? -fundraising, he doesn’t want to become the dominating force, but an example of involvement and as such wants to push others to participate.-Elections continue with the collecting and counting of ballots by SHIS Coordinator Lorenzo Guzman. Results come back as: Shaun Hoppel receiving 14-2 Rachel Parrino receiving 14-2 Ryan Furrey receiving 11-5-all nominees secure votes of confidence and will take their offices in May. -On Monday April 14th we have been invited by the counseling center Safe Zone training. -they are looking for people to help them demonstrate the necessity of the program. -specifically they are looking for discrimination stories from within the resident halls and university community. -people going will need to do a lot of talking, and need to be comfortable. -the training starts at 630, we won’t be needed until 8pm. -Rachel will be getting conformation, and detail later next week, please let her know tentively if you are interested.Banquet -we had a total of 72 guests come to the banquet. -Thank you for coming and congratulations to award winners.Raffle -we made $211 dollars from our DVD raffle -the winner has graciously donated it back to us. -we have always trusted money in the office; however, in counting the raffle money we have come up missing some money. -if anyone wants to talk to the e-board or Lorenzo, it will be kept completely confidential.They are many up coming events with SA and RHA, including a Drag Show April 19th on south campus, details |
