If you every visit Japan, there are a couple things you must do. One of the most important ways to get involved and learn a culture is to eat their food. I was interested in what kind of foods people would like to try, so I went around asking some friends, who are interested in Japanese culture, what they would like to try.

The most common answer was "Shabu Shabu." This is basically a winter dish. Very thinly cut vegetables and beef are put into a pot of boiling water, which some relish and spices are added. Next popular food was Oden, and Nabe. Oden is also a winter dish. It's more like a soup, with Tofu, and many Japanese relishes and other vegetables, seaweed, and sometimes hard boiled eggs are added. Nabe is almost the same, however the ingredients can differ.

Other popular foods and dishes were Ramen (and I mean the real stuff!), Soba (Buckwheat noodles) and Onigiri. So make sure to check these out and try a few when you visit Japan! They will definitely be a positive part of your stay.
