All of our projects for the Fall Semester have started, see the project section for project meeting times. If you would like to join one of our projects, email David Berquist at berquist@buffalo.edu , or the project leader listed in the Project section. Also, you can just show up for one of the project meetings.

IEEE is hosing a LAN Party on November 21! Invite your friends, bring along your gaming rig, and have some fun before Thanksgiving break. Food, games, tables, plug strips, and networking cables will all be provided, and there will be prizes for tournament and contest winners. You can purchase a ticket at the IEEE office. See the events section for details.

Drafts for the IEEE T-Shirt Design Contest are due! Send your design to berquist@buffalo.edu immediately if you'd like to be in the contest. See the events section for all the details of the contest.

We had a great time at the Lasertron Lock In. If you paid for a ticket, but didn't attend the event, please stop by the IEEE office to get a free Lasertron pass. The office will be open during all of the scheduled project meetings.

We have a new office phone number. Call us at (716) 939-1IEEE or (716) 939-1433.

Please contact Claire Lochner at clochner@buffalo.edu if you would like to be put on our listserve and receive reminders about upcoming events and meetings.

About Us
The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is the largest professional society worldwide composed of students and professional members from engineering and related disciplines. The mission of the organization is to help advance technology, enable members' careers, and to promote an international community. We the University of Buffalo, IEEE Chapter hold these same goals. The club focuses on giving students technical and professional preparation for competitive careers in industry and academia.

Our main goal is to help prepare students for engineering outside the classroom. Members have the opportunity to take leadership roles in a variety of interdisciplinary engineering projects. This year we are competing in the IEEE Micromouse autonomous maze-solving robot competition, building a battlebot for the on-campus Bot Wars competition, designing and building an automated turret, putting together a tabletop CNC Mill, and making a variable voltage switching power supply. As an introductory project this fall, we are creating persistence of vision displays, to teach PCB design and microprocessor programming. We offer a variety of workshops to help teach students the skills they need to work on our projects, covering topics like programming, soldering, and PCB design. Our chapter funds these projects and provides all necessary tools so that all students have an equal opportunity to become involved. These projects give students hands-on technical experience and leadership experience in multidisciplinary teams.

To help members build professional skills UB IEEE has organized related trips and presentations. These trips include visiting research labs, companies, science museums, conferences, and networking dinners. In the year of 2007-2008 we had a networking dinner with the Cornell IEEE Chapter, visited the Corning Museum of Glass, visited Cornell Nanoscale Facilities Labs, and the Cornell Synchotron Lab Facilities. For the year of 2008-2009 toured Data Storage, BioImaging Informatics, MEMS and Nanofabrication Labs at Carnegie Mellon University. Additionally, we attend the regional IEEE conference in the spring. Our chapter funds these trips so that all students have an equal opportunity to build professional skills. We also give an annual presentation of engineering related summer opportunities.

In recognition of the clubs achievements IEEE UB Chapter was the UB Engineering Club of the Year for 2007-2008.
