Picnic with the Syracuse University Chapter - Sunday, April 20

Officers of the UB GK Chapter drove to Syracuse to have a picnic with members of the Syracuse University GK Chapter. To see pictures of the event, go to the Photo Gallery.

Honor Society Gala - Saturday, April 19

We sponsored an end of the year Gala with Phi Eta Sigma and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars at the Center for Tomorrow from 6-10pm. There was be a sit down dinner, music, dancing, and a presentation of awards.

Buffalo Niagara Riverkeepers - Saturday, April 19

We cleaned up an area near Ellicott Creek from 9:00am to 12:00pm. To see pictures of the event, go to the Photo Gallery.

Food Drive - April

We held a food drive for St. Vincent De Paul.

Relay for Life - Saturday, April 12-Sunday, April 13

Relay for Life was held in Alumni Arena and started at 4pm on Saturday, April 12, and ended at 6am on Sunday, April 13. We participated with the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. More information on Relay for Life can be viewed at http://www.relayforlife.org/.

Habitat for Humanity - Saturday, March 22

We volunteered with Habitat for Humanity from 9am-3pm. Our site was located at 44 Brinkman Avenue, which is south off Walden Avenue near Bailey Avenue. We helped by sanding and mudding at the site.

General Meeting - Tuesday, February 19

Our general meeting for the spring semester occured at 5pm on Tuesday, February 19 in NSC 210. We discussed events for the rest of the semester and available officer positions for the 2008-2009 school year. Career Services also be gave a presentation on the dos and don'ts of resume writing.

Kaplan Test Drive - Saturday, February 16

Kaplan held a 2008 Test Drive, on February 16 at 11:00am - Kaplan offered a campus-wide opportunity for students to take a free practice GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, DAT, PCAT and OAT administered under simulated testing conditions.

"Let's Go To The Libraries" Program - February 2-April 19

Members helped refugee families (including children) from places like Africa, Southeast Asia, Middle Eastern countries, etc., by English tutoring/worksheets, conversation/practicing English, homework help, exploring the library/finding books, reading, computer lessons, arts & crafts/games, and having fun! Members spent 2 hours a week from February 2nd to April 19th participating.

Orientation Sesseion for "Let's Go To The Libraries" Program - Saturday, February 2

Attending the first orientation was required to participate in the "Let's Go To The Libraries" Program where members help refugee families (including children) from places like Africa, Southeast Asia, Middle Eastern countries, etc. by English tutoring/worksheets, conversation/practicing English, homework help, exploring the library/finding books, reading, computer lessons, arts & crafts/games, and having fun!

Gift Wrapping - Tuesday, December 18

We volunteered at the Boulevard Mall wrapping gifts. The proceeds from the gift wrapping services went to charity.

Book Drive - December 7-14

We ran a book drive from Friday, December 7th through Monday, December 17th. This book drive was in conjunction with Better World Books and benefitted the National Center for Family Literacy, an organization changing lives by providing literacy materials and training to 6,000 programs across the U.S.

Toiletry Drive - November

We held a toiletry drive for Saint Luke's Mission of Mercy during the month of November for their Christmas baskets. They usually end up getting mostly toys and things for the younger crowd, and not enough for people our age, so we collected everyday personal items that people our age and older would need and want.

Luau Social Event - Saturday, November 17

We hosted a luau from 7:00-10:30pm at the Hadley Community Building. There was free food and games, including a limbo contest. Members were invited to bring friends to this event. To see pictures of the event, go to the Photo Gallery.

St. Luke's Mission of Mercy - Saturday, November 17

We had a service event at St. Luke's Mission of Mercy where we helped pack 6,800 Thanksgiving baskets for needy families in the area from 12-3pm. To see pictures of the event, go to the Photo Gallery.

General Meeting - Tuesday, November 13

We held our General Meeting for all members starting at 5pm in NSC 228. Guest speakers from Kaplan and Big Brothers Big Sisters attended. Kaplan shared information about the GREs and other graduate school tests, their services, and tips for applying to graduate schools. Big Brothers Big Sisters shared information about how to get involved with their organization.

Induction Ceremony - Sunday, November 4

Our annual Induction Ceremony featured all new members of our chapter of Golden Key, as well as recognized Honorary Members chosen for this year. The ceremony began at 2pm in Slee Hall. To see pictures of the event, go to the Photo Gallery.

Planting Trees - Saturday, November 3

We met at the Buffalo Central Terminal to plant trees.

Make A Difference Day - Saturday, October 27

Make a Difference Day was on Saturday October 27th, a day in which all Golden Key Chapters will partake in a community service event. We participated in UB's Saturday of Service from 10am to 2pm helping clean up flood damage at Journey's End Refugee Center.

Informational Meeting - Tuesday, October 9

We had our informational meeting for all nominees at 5pm in Student Union 145A. We went over what Golden Key is all about and the many benefits of joining!

St. Vincent DePaul - Sunday, October 7

Volunteers helped prepare and serve food within the soup kitchen.

Information Table - Tuesday, October 2

In the Student Union Lobby, current Golden Key members staffed a table to answer any prospective members' questions about Golden Key.

Linda Yalem Run - Sunday, September 30

Volunteers helped out with the Linda Yalem Run on the day of the race between 8am and 11am.

Buffalo Niagara Riverkeepers - Saturday, September 15

We worked with Buffalo Niagara Riverkeepers by helping out with their Autumn Beach Sweep. This event took place on Saturday, September 15th from 9am until about noon.
