Our research in UB’s Department of Chemistry involves the synthesis, characterization, and surface functionalization of inorganic nanomaterials. We utilize surface chemistry and coordination chemistry to control the composition, shape, and interconnectivity of nanostructured materials. We study the attachment of molecules to surfaces, develop new methods for materials assembly, design materials with novel photochemical and electron transfer reactivity, and elucidate the influence of interfacial properties on light-induced charge-transfer reactivity. Through this fundamental science, we aim to contribute to the broader effort to develop materials architectures for solar energy conversion.
