The Brief Research Summary Option – 1.0 credit per paper.

To earn credit, your paper must meet the following criteria (Check that you have satisfied each item with a checkbox ):

1. You must select a paper from:

  1. A peer-reviewed journal article from UB Libraries’ PsychARTICLES full-text database. (You must be on a campus computer or logged in through UB dial up or proxy to access this database). Help me with this...
  2. The paper must have been published no more than 6 months prior to the date you hand it in. Help me with this...
  3. The paper must contain empirical results (i.e., report the results of an experiment or survey, not be a summary or opinion paper). Help me with this...

2. You must print the first page of the article from the web and hand it in with your summary. Help me with this...

3. You must write a summary of the research article with the following headings. Summarize appropriate information from the article beneath each heading:

  1. Hypotheses – what was the hypothesis being tested by the experiment(s)?
  2. Participants – who were the participants or subjects of the experiment(s)?
  3. Results – what did the experiment find?
  4. Discussion – relate the content of the article to material covered in PSY 101

4. Plagiarism will be dealt with according to university policy. DO NOT copy from the article. Cite any ideas that are not your own.

5. Papers are due before the last day of classes. Papers are accepted any time - hand your paper in to your instructor or Teaching Assistant.

6. Check your syllabus for any additional requirements or instructions that your instructor may provide regarding the research paper option.
