Statement of Research Interests:
My research is designed
to help us understand social influences and cognitive factors that affect beliefs
about health. The overall goal is promote preventive behaviors and decrease
those that are destructive to health. I am especially interested in knowledge
of, and social and ethical issues surrounding family health information. I also
collaborate with colleagues in the Division of Cancer Prevention at Roswell
Park Cancer Institute on research designed to correct misinformation about
tobacco and nicotine products among both smokers and nonsmokers, and hold a
secondary appointment in the Dept. of Social and Preventive Medicine.
Additional interests are in community
interventions, methodological issues, stress, and emotional development. I also put my research skills and
interest in public health policy to use through involvement in the Erie-Niagara
Tobacco-Free Coalition, and on the Love Canal Medical Fund Board of Directors
and Research Committee.
