About the Program
The Informatics program focuses on connecting people with information and technology. Informatics is an interdisciplinary study of the design, application, and use of information technology within a broader social context. At the core of our curriculum is the principle that information serves the purposes of human communication and is enhanced by technological systems. Students will have a strong understanding of the interaction between technology and social, cultural, and organizational settings as well as facility with technology.

About Our Courses
At the core of our curriculum is the shared principle that information serves the purposes of human communication and is enhanced by technological systems. The School of Informatics pursues success in information access by harnessing communication and information theory to develop best practices, analyze policy, and conduct basic research. Courses are designed to give a cohesive approach to the management, structure, and design of information and information systems. We examine the nexus of people, information, and technology.

Notable Program Features
Informatics offers a two semester senior sequence that includes a team-based approach to Informatics research and culminates in a Capstone Project. Students will learn effective project management and gain a greater understanding of the issues related to team-based work.
Undergraduate Research and Practical Experience
Internships and independent study are strongly encouraged. The undergraduate degree has a two semester sequence for students with senior standing that begins with a research component and culminates in a capstone project.
Career Information and Further Study
Informatics Careers may include but are not limited to:
Systems Analysts
Consults with staff and users to identify operating procedure problems
Formulates and reviews plans outlining steps required to develop programs to meet staff and user requirements
Information Systems Analyst
Assists with and conducts feasibility studies for new or revised systems
Assists with the design of new systems and revisions to existing systems and coordinates their integration into existing systems and procedures
Writes procedures, manuals and instructional material relating to the use of various department systems
Data and Information Design Analyst
Design the enterprise data warehouse, including structured and unstructured data;
Maintain source to target data mappings
Maintain the data warehouse metadata
Information Technology Application Specialist
Provide programming, application, and database maintenance and support.
Work with the user community to develop strategies and solutions that satisfy the needs of the business.
Information Security Analyst
Information Assurance
Risk and vulnerability assessments
Working with customers on their security documentation
Security testing and evaluations
