    Director Emeritus, Gifted Math Program

    Dr. Rising is State University of New York Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus at the University at Buffalo where he taught for 30 years before his retirement in 1994. He taught previously at the University of Minnesota, the University of Connecticut, New York University, and the University of Rochester. Before that he was K-14 Mathematics Coordinator for the Norwalk, Connecticut Public Schools, and still earlier a mathematics classroom teacher at New York State high schools including those in Brighton, Greece, Johnson City, and Warsaw. One of the GMP founders, with Betty Krist, Rising has reduced his status to director emeritus; however, he continues to participate whenever possible in program activities. Professor Rising's academic background includes Ph.D. New York University, M.S. (mathematics) Notre Dame, Ed.M.and B.A. (English) University of Rochester. He completed additional studies at Princeton and Syracuse Universities. Dr. Rising currently (as Gerry Rising) writes a weekly column entitled "Nature Watch" for The Buffalo New. His book, "Inside Your Calculator: From Simple Programs to Significant Insights" is to be published this year by Wiley. The best way to reach Dr. Rising is by email, insrisg@acsu.buffalo.edu.
