Joaquin O. Carbonara is originally from South America (Venezuela). Born in a small and remote mountain town (Bocono), he found his way to San Diego, CA in 1979. After obtaining a PhD from UCSD in 1992, he was hired at Buffalo State College, where he is currently an Associate Professor. He obtained a Masters degree in Computer Science from UB in June 2005.
He lived in Florence, Italy, for a year, and has visited France, Germany, England and Switzerland. As a teenager, he spent a lot of time doing classical music; later, in San Diego State University, he was a suling (flute) player in a Balinese group. Currently he enjoys hiking and jogging, when taking time off from doing Mathematics.
