Welcome to the home page of the University at Buffalo's Graduate Group for German and Austrian Studies (GGGAAS).

The Graduate Group, first established in 1974 by Professors Georg Iggers and William S. Allen, is a center for students and faculty interested in various aspects of the culture and language of the German-speaking countries of Europe. Our members come from a wide range of departments, and we welcome new members from all parts of the University.

The aim of the group's activities is the promotion of scholarly and creative work on German and Austrian related themes by faculty and graduate students throughout the university community, with special attention to history, linguistics, art, literature, film, and philosophy. Recent events have included visits by prominent historians, linguists, filmmakers, and authors, as well as co-sponsorship of important international conferences. This year, the graduate group is again facilitating a variety of interdisciplinary programs under the direction of Professors David Fertig (Linguistics) and Patricia Mazón (History). For details, click on "Upcoming Events".
