Responsible Fatherhood Initiative-
Strengthening Families Initiative (SFI)

This initiative is sponsored by the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) in partnership with the Educational Opportunity Center.

The SFI Program goal is to promote positive interaction between non-custodial parents and their children, while addressing their own personal unmet needs to make them self-sufficient and accountable for their children.

The SFI Program offers individualized programs based upon the needs of the non-custodial parent.

The SFI program:

Assists unemployed or underemployed (working less than 20 hours per week) non-custodial parents in obtaining or upgrading employment.

Provides intensive Case Management; identify personal, legal, emotional, educational, transportation and financial issues.

Address academic and vocational training.

Focus on legal issues with court advocacy.

Provide services to ex-offenders.

Eligibility

  • Be a non custodial parent 
  • Be a public assistance recipient or income must meet the 200% of Poverty guidelines.
  • Be unemployed or underemployed (working less than 20 hours per week)
  • Be between the ages of 16-45
