Home WELCOME FROM THE DEAN 2005 marks the 82nd anniversary of the founding of The University of Buffalo's "Evening Session" in 1923 at Townsend Hall in downtown Buffalo. The mission of the Evening Session was to provide access to higher education for working adults who could not attend the university during the day. Four years later in 1927, the Evening Session was renamed "Millard Fillmore College" in honor of UB's first Chancellor and one of Buffalo's leading citizens. During the past 80 years, UB has undergone many changes as it has grown from a private institution (The University of Buffalo) to a leading public university (The State University of New York at Buffalo). Millard Fillmore College has also undergone many changes over the years -- becoming a division of continuing education, an evening college, a college and summer sessions. Throughout these changes, MFC has steadfastly remained a means to the future through university studies for students who could not otherwise attend the university during the day. Most recently, MFC has refocused its mission from UB's night school to a college dedicated to serving the non-traditional student with courses and certificate programs. The goal of today's MFC is to provide continuing education and professional studies courses that meet the educational needs of working adults. Through the Internet, MFC makes its courses convenient and available to the non-traditional student, whether living in Buffalo, New York City, or beyond. Join us in celebrating more than 80 years of public service by continuing your education online and in the classroom.
