Housing in Buffalo
Deciding where to live is one of the most important decisions you will make! To help you decide, read Living On-Campus vs. Off-Campus.
Students Who Will Live On-Campus
Although University housing does not officially open for new students until August 27, 2015, international students who will attend International Student Orientation and who have made arrangements to live on campus will be permitted to check in to their on-campus housing starting on Friday, August 21 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. No students will be permitted to move in before August 21. Students who choose to move in prior to August 27 may incur a $35 per night early arrival charge, depending on their actual housing assignment. After you have been assigned to on-campus housing, full details about your housing start date and early arrival charges will be sent to you via e-mail. At that time, you may contact the Housing Operations office with questions.
If you choose to stay in on-campus housing during International Student Orientation, please be aware that the residence halls will not be officially open and, therefore, there will be few students staying there and only a limited number of staff members to assist you.
You should also be aware that, once you check in to your on-campus housing, you are contractually obligated to rent it for the entire academic year. Housing contracts are typically broken only if the student leaves the University at Buffalo.
On-Campus Housing Room Assignments & Cancellation Deadline
Information about your housing assignment (location, roommate, check-in dates and times) will be sent to you in early August. The Housing Office plans to send housing information electronically to international students and will use the e-mail address you provided on your admissions application for that purpose. If you do not receive your housing information by the beginning of August, please feel free to contact the Housing Office by telephone at (716) 645-2171, by e-mail at email@example.com or by fax at (716) 645-3968. The Housing Office is open on Mondays - Fridays from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. EST. You may also visit the check-in website (www.housing.buffalo.edu/checkin) after August 1, 2015 for more information about check-in.
For INTERNATIONAL students, the deadline to cancel on-campus housing is July 1, 2015. Please note that the cancellation deadline for all other students is May 1, 2015. After July 1, 2015, you will not be released from your housing contract unless you choose not to attend UB during the Fall 2015 semester. Please do not sign a lease for an off-campus apartment after July 1, 2015 as you will not be released from your on-campus Housing Agreement.
Students Who Will Live Off-Campus
If you choose not to live on campus, we urge you to make temporary housing arrangements prior to your arrival in Buffalo. We do not recommend arriving on campus with lots of luggage and no place to spend the night as it is very difficult to find permanent housing in one day.
Should you need temporary accommodations prior to August 21 or during International Student Orientation, your temporary housing options include staying in a hotel or with a friend, relative or UB student.
