TOEFL and SPEAK Tests
TOEFL
If you are an exchange student or graduate student with a TOEFL Deferral, you must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) upon arrival and you may not register for courses until you have taken this test. The TOEFL test will be given on Monday, August 18 in the early afternoon. The charge for taking the TOEFL is $35; this charge will be billed directly to your student account.
SPEAK
You must take the Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit (SPEAK) before registering for classes if:
- you have been awarded a teaching, research or graduate assistantship
- you have no assistantship, but your department requires it
Individually administered SPEAK tests are scheduled throughout the day on Monday, August 18. The charge for the SPEAK test will be billed directly to your student account. The amount of the charge will be posted at www.buffalo.edu/eli/speak in Summer 2008.
A Test of Spoken English (TSE) score not more than two years old may replace the SPEAK test, depending on the score. You must bring official TSE results for review.
