Housing UB
The University at Buffalo is pleased to offer students a variety of housing options to fit the different needs of our students. Students have the option to live either on-campus of off-campus. We generally encourage most international students to live on-campus so that students may interact with US and other international students.
The University at Buffalo offers residence halls and apartment style housing. The residence halls are generally reserved for first and second year undergraduate students. The on-campus apartment complexes are usually reserved for our third and fourth year students. We also have designated on-campus apartment complexes for graduate students.
The residence halls are located on both the north and south campus. The south campus residence halls include Goodyear Hall, Clement Hall and The Triad Complex. The two complexes on the north campus are the Governors and the Ellicott complex.
Residence Halls
South Campus
There are five residence hall facilities on the South Campus: Clement and Goodyear Halls, which are two high-rise halls connected by a service area; Pritchard, MacDonald, and Schoellkopf Halls, which are four story residences. Clement and Goodyear each house 480 students in suite arrangements. The suites, two double rooms connected by a bath, enable each floor to be coeducational by alternate suites. Pritchard, MacDonald, and Schoellkopf each house 150 students in double rooms. Each floor is divided into two wings, each has centrally located baths. International students choosing to live on the South Campus should choose Clement Hall or MacDonald Hall as their first choice since those are the only two South Campus Residence Halls that remains open during term breaks.
North Campus
The North Campus has two housing clusters: the Governors Residence Halls and the the Joseph Ellicott Complex. Governors' halls house 825 students in suites, each consisting of four double rooms, a bathroom, and a lounge. The complex is coeducational by alternate suites. Ellicott is a self contained campus-within-a-campus where 3,250 students enjoy a blend of living, learning, studying, and recreational space. Living areas are coeducational by alternating sections. Each section has rooms ranging from four-person occupancy to single, with common baths and lounges that include snack-preparation facilities. International students choosing to live on the North Campus should choose Red Jacket Quadrange or Clinton Hall as their first choice since they are the only North Campus Residence Halls that remain open during term breaks.
Apartment Complexes
The University at Buffalo has recently in the past few years built new apartment style complexes to fulfill the housing needs of our students. Apartment complexes are generally for graduate students and upper-level (junior/senior) undergraduate students.

Residential Dining
The University at Buffalo offers affordable and convenient meal plans which provide good food and nutrition. Meal plans are accepted at all Dining service locations on both campuses, which include residence hall dining rooms, fast food outlets, snack bars, and Bert's food court in Talbert, as well as our fine dining restaurants, such as Pistachio's in the Student Union on the North Campus.
The University at Buffalo Dining Service meal plan consists of two parts: resident dining and declining balance. The resident dining portion provides for breakfast and dinners during the week and brunches and dinners on the weekends. Resident meals are served in the residence hall dining rooms and provide a choice of four to six entrees nightly. Resident dining meals also include all-you-can-eat, self-served vegetables, breads and rolls, and beverages.
The declining balance portion of the meal plan provides for lunches and snacks. Declining balance is similar to a bank account with a bank card, or a pre-paid credit card. Points are used instead of cash to purchase individually priced items from our dining area, and the total number of points are deducted from the student's account. Additional declining balance points may be purchased at any time.
