UB welcomes qualified international graduate applicants; with nearly 2,500 international students from more than 100 different countries, you'll find that UB offers a warm and welcoming environment.

Graduate education is decentralized at UB. This means that interested applicants need to interact directly with the relevant graduate school or department and submit applications and documentation directly to the school or department. The office of Inte rnational Admissions serves only as the final clearinghouse in the admissions process; in all cases you should deal directly with the relevant school or department.

In general, the international graduate admissions process is as follows:

1. Apply directly to the graduate school / department in which you are interested. Most departments prefer that you apply using their on-line application form; if you do not have access to on-line services, please contact the relevant department for a p aper application. Adhere to all deadlines and requirements.
2. The academic school or department will inform you of their admissions decision in early spring (usually sometime in March or April). If you are admitted, it is considered provisional pending final review by the office of International Admissions.
3. Some departments require that you confirm or accept their offer of admission. Adhere to all deadlines.
4. Academic schools and departments then submit your application file to the office of International Admissions for final review (usually April - June).
5. If the application file is in proper order, the office of International Admissions prepares the Certificate of Visa Eligibility (I-20 form).
6. The office of International Admissions then issues the Admissions Packet (with I-20 form) and sends it by express courier delivery service. The Admissions Packet includes your official letter of acceptance, the Certificate of Visa Eligibility, and in formation about International Student Orientation, on-campus housing, international student clubs, and health insurance. 80% of graduate admissions packets are sent in May and June.
7. Upon receiving the official Admissions Packet, you should make arrangements for housing, register for International Student Orientation, apply for your student visa, and arrange for travel to Buffalo, New York.
