Transfer of Credit
The transfer of credit from your college/university involves a two-step process.
First, apply to UB as an international transfer applicant. The application will be evaluated to determine if the applicant meets the minimum entrance requirements. If the minimum entrance requirements are met, the application will then be evaluated for transfer of credits. If offered admission to UB, the applicant will receive a Letter of Acceptance and a Transfer Report. The Transfer Report will state the total number of credits accepted for transfer to UB; the credits will be marked as transferable to one of several categories: (1) General Education requirements, (2) Major (Department) requirements, (3)Free Electives, and (4) None (credit not transferred).
Pre-evaluations are not possible. Credits cannot be evaluated for transfer before the applicant has submitted an application. Evaluation for the purpose of transfer of credits is part of the application review process. The Transfer Report will be sent along with the Acceptance Letter.
Second, a subject-by-subject evaluation and articulation with UB subjects is done after your arrival at UB with the assistance of your academic advisor. This second step begins during an academic advising session that occurs during International Student Orientation. In many cases, a final evaluation takes several weeks and will only be completed towards the end of the first semester at UB.
Students should expect that not all transfer credits will match exactly with UB subjects. Some credits accepted for transfer will be categorized as elective and count as extra credits above and beyond the minimum requirements of the university and the academic department. Transfer students typically require 2 - 3 years of full-time study at UB to complete the Bachelor degree.
