SEFA…gives you the chance to HELP NOW!
Hurricane Katrina and SEFA support
Over the course of the last 2 weeks, Hurricane Katrina has left its cruel mark as one of the most deadly, destructive, and costly disasters in US history. Tens of thousands of people were left without homes and jobs. Hundreds, and possibly thousands, lost their lives.
Relief and rebuilding efforts will be needed for years to come in response to this disaster. There is no single agency that can solve the multitude of problems wrought by Katrina. Some agencies will provide immediate aid and response to victims, while others agencies will be engaged for weeks, months and years to come providing ongoing and additional resources to individuals struggling to rebuild their lives and their livelihoods. In our own Western New York community, we anticipate hundreds of Gulf Coast residents to relocate here, whether for the short term or the long. Numerous local agencies offering many and varied services have come together to collaborate in providing assistance to our newest Western New York neighbors.
For employees and emeritus employees at UB, SEFA offers many opportunities to assist with hurricane relief. While there is no single designation available for the purpose of hurricane relief, the accompanying list indicates a large selection of SEFA supported agencies that are involved in current and long-term relief efforts. Although your gift to this year's SEFA campaign is actually realized during the 2006 calendar year, your contribution to organizations supporting hurricane relief will help to replenish resources they are depleting now in their immediate efforts, and provide the means they need to provide ongoing services in the future.
If you are interested in supporting hurricane relief through your SEFA contribution, you are encouraged to consult the web sites of these organizations to determine which agencies are providing the types of services that you most wish to support. Web addresses are available in the SEFA directory of services included with your SEFA packet. As always, you are welcomed to make designations to multiple programs and agencies of your choice.
The $883,000 raised in UB's 2004 SEFA campaign has helped enable local and national agencies to provide immediate relief efforts so far for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Your continued support of these and other agencies in our 2005 campaign ensures that can continue to be ready to provide essential services for people when they need them, where they need them, whether right here at UB, in Western New York, or beyond. Thank you for your continued support of SEFA!
