Letter from the Chair - Mr. Dennis Black
Letter from the Chair - Mr. Dennis Black
This year, our University community has made a strong commitment to building stronger communities. The most effective way to do this and to help people in need is through our annual SEFA/United Way campaign. For the past several years, UB has been a strong community leader because UB students, faculty, and staff care. They care enough to get involved in "Day of Caring." We care enough to serve as SEFA campaign liaisons. We care enough to volunteer to serve a variety of community service agencies and programs. We care enough to support these caring organizations financially through the annual campaign.
This fall, you are being asked to consider a gift that will help the many in need obtain assistance. To give or what to give are your decisions. But remember that a gift taken out of your paycheck in small amounts over the next year will add up to a tremendous amount of caring for real people with real needs.
Everyone experiences difficult problems at some times. Because of SEFA/United Way, there are community programs available to respond, with everything from child care, emergency shelter, disease research, and family violence counseling. This work, and much more, is supported by your gift. Before making a pledge decision this year, learn more about this work through the campaign literature, our web site, and the SEFA agency brochure.
The campaign began in mid-August with UB's participation in "Day of Caring." Over 200 UB faculty, students, and staff demonstrated their caring attitude by spending a day working at over 16 different service agencies and programs throughout the region. They joined almost 6,000 others in making a positive difference in the lives of others. Participation in this year's UB SEFA/United Way campaign represents your next chance to do the same.
To assist the campus campaign, please complete your SEFA Campaign Form given to you by your campaign liaison. To help in "building strong communities" please consider as generous a gift as possible. I am excited about this year's theme, "Building Stronger Communities," impressed by the campus volunteer network, and convinced of the need for UB to be a community leader in this true community campaign. Special thanks to this year's campaign administrative team and the campus liaisons.
Finally, I thank each and everyone of you for being part of UB's partnership of caring. UB does care!
