On July 9th, 2009 we unveiled the first Uncrowned Community Builder’s kiosk. The kiosk is a partially enclosed environment which could comfortably seat two or more people. The idea is to allow individuals the opportunity to record their own histories - with a scanner, computer, camera, microphones and other technologies to assist them.
Thomas Slomka of UB’s Digital Libraries demonstrated the kiosk and its remote capability to access the Uncrowned Queens and Kings WebPages. Several individuals who are interested in this project were on hand for the demonstration, including Dr. Charles Stinger, Senior Associate Dean, UB’s College of Arts & Sciences, Buffalo’s Deputy Mayor Donna Brown, Buffalo & Erie County Library staff, Anne Kling, Joyce Rambo, of NYLink. The kiosk was designed and built by Hadley Exhibits, a local company that does exhibits for the Smithsonian and other national and international museums. The first kiosk will be installed at the Frank E. Merriweather Library by October of this year.
