When Death is Sought
Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia in the Medical Context
Supplement to Report
April 1997
In May 1994, the New York State Task Force on Life and the Law published
a 217 page report titled "When Death Is Sought: Assisted Suicide and
Euthanasia in the Medical Context".
The report was subsequently made available
electronically on the NYS
Department of Health Web site.
In January 1997, the United States Supreme Court heard arguments in two
cases challenging the constitutionality of laws that make assisted suicide
illegal in all cases. The decisions in these cases
from the 2nd and
9th Circuit Courts prompted the Task Force to publish a supplement to
the original report specifically addressing some of the issues raised in
those cases.
Thanks to Carl Coleman JD,
and the Task Force for making this supplement
available to us. Thanks to Cameron
Freer for the web graphics for this
report.
Comments and questions about this report should be addressed to:

Executive Director, New York State Task Force on Life and the Law.
