Primary Activities

ESI Research Program
ESI has provided seed funding for research and analysis in environmental science relevant to the regional, national and global environmental research and education priorities. The current research program is similar in nature to previous ESI research initiatives (the EMAP and ESIRP programs)

ESI Graduate Fellowships
ESI has provided highly competitive "top-off" fellowships for graduate students engaged in interdisciplinary environmental study and research. For the 2004–05 academic year, applications are sought for the Lester Milbrath Fellowship.

Community Outreach and Research
ESI responds to regional environmental concerns by convening faculty with related expertise to study the issues and suggest corrective action where appropriate.

Curriculum Enrichment
ESI is studying ways to coordinate environmental studies across disciplines and provide opportunities for program enhancement through specialized tracks, minors, and modules.

Clearinghouse for Environmental Information
ESI maintains a comprehensive web page featuring detailed information on UB and ESI programs as well as links to local and national environmental resources. It also maintains several listservs for sharing announcements and opportunities.

Annual Colloquium
The annual Environment and Society Colloquium is an opportunity for environmental researchers, faculty members, graduate students, and undergraduates to gather to share research and identify issues or problems of common interest that can lead to new collaborative efforts and solutions.
