Nine strophes comprising, respectively, the following numbers of typographical lines: 1, 3, 4, 7, 11, 18, 11, 7, and 4: an ascending and partially descending "Lucas sequence." {The number sequence 1, 3, 4, 7, 11, 18, 29, 47, 76, etc., was developed c. 1880 by the French mathematician Andrí Lucas as a means of testing for Mersenne prime numbers.}

The stophes' source text was a "blend" of words drawn from two passages by Gertrude Stein published in A Stein Reader, edited by Ulla E. Dydo (Evanston IL: Northwestern UP, 1993): ASR 126-33, from "Orta or One Dancing," and ASR 182-83, from "Pink Melon Joy."

This "blend" was run through DIASTEX5, Charles O. Hartman's most recent version of his computer program that automates one of my diastic reading-through text-selection methods (deterministic procedures, not chance operations), employing a part of the passage from "Orta" as a "seed text," the word string that is "spelled out diastically" by words from the source text which have the letters of the seed text's words in corresponding positions.

Each word string beginning with a capital letter at the left margin, and whether including one or more typographical lines, was punctuated as a sentence, with a final period and with "runover" lines indented. Then all the typographical lines, unindented and indented, were successively grouped in "Lucas-sequence strophes" as above.
