| About the Educational Opportunity Program The University at Buffalo is committed to providing access to higher education for all capable students. The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) provides an avenue for admission and means of support for talented students who have not reached their full academic potential due to barriers in their educational, economic, or personal background. Applicants must be New York State residents who qualify under EOP financial eligibility guidelines.
EOP Students differ from other students only in the number and scope of services available to them. They attend the same classes, live in the same residence halls, participate in the same extracurricular activities, have access to the same resource, and pursue the same careers as other university students.
The Educational Opportunity Program is regarded as one of the most successful program of its type in the nation. Since its inception over 30 years ago, the Educational Opportunity Program at the University at Buffalo along with other programs in colleges and universities across New York State have graduated over 50,000 students. Although most EOP graduates begin their careers immediately after graduation, many continue their studies in Masters, Doctoral and Professional Programs across New York State. Clearly the Educational Opportunity Program is the quintessential approach to fulfilling State University of New York (SUNY) policy that “every student capable of completing a program of higher education shall have the opportunity to do so”
