Introduction

Java Runtime Environment (JRE) allows you to run applications that are written in the Java programming language. These applications include games, tools, information programs, and other services. If you use Blackboard or the ARTstor digital archive collection, you need JRE. Once installed, JRE starts automatically and runs in the background as needed.

Obtaining Sun Java JRE

  1. Make sure that you have established a connection to the Internet.
  2. If you have not already been directed to the Sun Java website, please click on the following URL:

    http://developers.sun.com/downloads/top.jsp.
  3. Scroll down to the Java SE heading and click Download next to Java Runtime Environment (JRE).
  4. Click Accept License Agreement.
  5. Click Windows Online Installation, Multi-Language.
  6. When the Opening window appears, select Save file .

  7. When the download process completes, open the Downloads window by pressing Ctrl j, then click Open next to the Sun Java JRE installer file.

Installing Sun Java JRE

  1. Please wait while Windows Installer prepares to install Sun Java JRE.

  2. When the License Agreement window appears, carefully read the license agreement, select Typical setup, then click Accept.

  3. Please wait while Sun Java JRE installs on your computer.

  4. When the Installation Completed window appears, click Finish.
