Introduction

Some Internet companies use scripts to insert code into your computer. These changes are often undetected by anti-virus software, but can result in pop-up ads, replaced home pages, and data mining software, which sends information back to an online source. Lavasoft's Ad-Aware 2007 detects and removes these changes from your computer.

Using Ad-Aware 2007 for Windows

  1. To start Ad-Aware, click start, select All Programs, Lavasoft, then Ad-Aware 2007 . The Ad-Aware 2007 window appears when the program launches.

  2. Click Scan Now.

  3. Select Smart Scan, then click Scan.

  4. Ad-Aware 2007 will scan your drive space. This may take some time.

  5. Ad-Aware 2007 will break down identified spyware into two categories: Critical Objects and Privacy Objects. Review the files (if any) listed under Critical Objects and select the box next to any files you want to remove. Novice users should select all files. Click Remove.

  6. Next, click the Privacy Objects tab to view any additional spyware files. Review the files (if any) and select the box next to any files you want to remove. Novice users should select all files. Click Remove. After all files have been removed, click Finish.

  7. Ad-Aware 2007 will provide a scan summary.
