Thunderbird is an open-source email client that is a free alternative to other email clients such as Mulberry. Thunderbird is available for download by anyone, anywhere. Because it is open-source an infinite number of copies of the software can be legally installed on any number of machines. It has many useful features, such as automatic junk-mail controls and advanced security options.
Obtaining Thunderbird
- Thunderbird can be downloaded at: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/
- Click the Free Download image.
- Please wait for the Thunderbird setup file to download.

- When the file has completed downloading, the Thunderbird license agreement window will appear. Read the license agreement, then click Accept.

Installing Thunderbird
- When the setup file begins to open, it will decompress and may be scanned by a virus scanner so that it mounts safely. Please wait while this process completes.

- When the scan is complete, Thunderbird will have mounted on your system as a temporary directory, as if it were a CD or removable drive. In order to permanently copy the necessary Thunderbird files to your hard drive, click the Thunderbird icon and drag it onto your Desktop.

- To make Thunderbird your default client, select the application Mail from the Applications folder. Choose Preferences from the Mail menu within the application. Set Thunderbird as the Default Email Reader.
- Double-click on the Thunderbird icon on your Desktop to launch the program.
