Using Fugu

  1. When Fugu first starts, you will see its main screen, a list of your current directories on the left, and remote server information on the right.

  2. Enter the name of the remote server (e.g., ubunix.buffalo.edu) in the field labeled Connect to. Clicking the arrow to the right of this field will open a pull-down list of servers that you have connected to recently.
  3. Enter your username into the Username field. You should not need to enter anything in the Port field, unless the Administrator of the remote server to which you are attempting to connect has given you a specific port. On the remote server, you can specify the directory in which you want to begin by entering it into the Directory field. You will begin in the default directory if you leave this field blank. Click Connect to connect to the remote sever.

  4. Please wait while Fugu connects to the remote server.

  5. When prompted, enter your password. If you select the checkbox labeled Add Password to Keychain, Fugu will save the password associated with this account for future use. Click Authenticate to continue.

  6. When the connection has been successfully established, the remote files will be visible on the right side of the screen.

At this point, you may drag and drop files from the left side of your screen to the right or vice versa, thereby transferring them to or from the remote server. Double-clicking on directories in either window will move you to that directory, and clicking the up arrows to the right of the local and remote directory names will move you up to the previous directory.

Clicking the Go To icon at the top of the screen opens a window in which you may specify a local or remote directory by its complete path.

Change directory

To do so, click either the Locally or Remotely button to specify whether the path you are entering is located on your machine or the remote server. Enter the desired path, then click Go.

Connecting to Your UBFS Space with Fugu

Fugu can connect to your UBFS space through UBUnix. You can download or upload files to this space in order to customize your public webspace or store files for universal access at the University at Buffalo.

  1. From your remote home directory, click the Go To button in the toolbar at the top of the page.
  2. Make sure that Remotely is selected.
  3. Enter /ubfs/user/first letter of your UBITName/second letter of your UBITName/your complete UBITName/ub. For example, a user whose UBITName is jdoe would enter /ubfs/user/j/d/jdoe/ub.
  4. The four displayed directories are your UBFS space. You can drag files to and from any of these directories to manipulate their contents.
