Setting Up Your Dial-Up Modem Connection to UB in Windows Vista

Setting Up Your Connection
These steps should only be used to set up your computer to connect directly to UB's modem pool, and should not be used when connecting from a third-party ISP.
- Select Welcome Center from the Windows Vista Start Menu.
- Select Connect to the Internet from the Welcome Center menu.
- Select No, Create a New Connection, then click Next.
- Click Dial-up.
- Using the information below, enter the modem phone number that corresponds with your location. Enter your UBITName and UBIT Password. Enter a name for your connection so that you can idenfity it later. Click Connect.
- Wait while your new connection is tested.

- Select the location where you will use your new connection. Click the corresponding button to continue.

- You have successfully created a dial-up connection on your computer.
You should confirm your local dial-up number with your telephone service provider. The University at Buffalo is not responsible for any long distance or regional dialing charges if you use an incorrect number.

Connecting to UB from off campus
You need to follow these steps each time you wish to connect to UB's modem pool to access the Internet.
- Select Connect To in the Start Menu.
- Select your off-campus dial-up connection, then click Connect.
- Enter your UBITName and UBIT Password. Click Dial.
- Wait while you are connected.
- You are now connected to the internet. Click Close.

Note
If your password is more than 15 characters long, the system will not be able to authenticate your login via dialup.
Disconnecting From off campus
When connected directly to UB's modem pool, you need to follow these instructions each time you would like to disconnect from the Internet and end your session.
- Double-click the Connection Icon in the System Tray.

- In the Active Connection Window, click Connect or disconnect.
- Select the dial-up connection and click Disconnect.
- Wait while you are disconnected from UB.

- You have successfully disconnected from your off campus dial-up connection.
