Burning CDs in Public Computing Service Areas Using Nero Express
Documentation table of contents.
Introduction
Nero Express allows you to quickly and easily burn a CD in various formats. You must have a blank CD-R or a CD-RW in order to use the software. Audio CDs burned using a CD-RW may not correctly play on many CD players, and CD-Rs may only be burned once. Nero Express is available on Windows computers in Public Computing Areas.
Running Nero Express
- If you are recording a new CD, insert a blank CD-R or a CD-RW into the CD recording drive in the computer. If you are copying an existing CD, insert the CD you want to copy into the CD recording drive.
- Click Start, select All Programs, Nero 7 Ultra Edition, Data, then Nero Express.
- Continue to the appropriate section for burning a data CD, audio CD, a copy of an existing CD, a disc image file, or a video CD.
Burning a Data CD
Burning a data CD allows you to record up to 650MB or 700MB (depending on the type of recordable disc you are using) of data to a CD-R or CD-RW. This disc can then be used only on computers. Song files burned to a data CD will not work in CD players, which require an audio CD.
- When the Nero Express window appears, click Data, then Data CD.
- Click the Add button.
- Select the file(s) you want to record to the disc, then click Add. Continue this process until you have selected all the files you want to record, then click Close.
- Click Next at the bottom of the window.
- Click Burn.
- Your data CD will start to burn, and a meter will track the progress made in the burning process. If you receive any errors during this process, carefully read the error message, and correct the issue.
- When the burning process is complete, click Next. A window will appear, allowing you to burn another copy of the disc, start a new burning process, or exit Nero Express.
Burning an Audio CD
Burning an audio CD allows you to play the recorded songs on a computer, CD player, or any device that accepts standard music CDs. Nero Express supports a wide variety of audio formats, including MP3 and WMA (Windows Media) formats. Audio CDs burned using a CD-RW may not play correctly on some CD players.
-
When the Nero Express window appears, click Music, then Audio CD.
- Click Add.
-
Select the audio file(s) you want to record to the disc, then click Add. Continue this process until you have selected all the files to record, then click Close.
- Click Next at the bottom of the window.
- Click Burn.
- The audio CD will begin to burn, and a meter will track the progress of the burning process. If an error appears during this process, carefully read the error message, then correct the issue.
- When the burning process is complete, a dialog box will appear informing you that the disc was burned successfully. Click OK.
- Click Next. A window will appear, allowing you to burn another copy of the disc, start a new burning process, or exit Nero Express.
Note
Do not illegally copy or burn music. Be sure you have permission from the copyright holder before burning any music files.
Note
If the audio file you want to burn does not appear in the file selection window, the format of the audio file is not supported by Nero Express.
Copying a CD
Nero Express allows you to copy a pre-recorded CD onto a CD-R or CD-RW. This new CD will be an exact copy of the original CD.
-
When the Nero Express window appears, click Image, Project, Copy, then Copy Entire CD.
- Click Copy.
- Nero Express will begin to create a temporary copy of the CD, and a meter will track the progress of this process.
- When the temporary copy has been created, the disc will be ejected from the CD recording drive, and a dialog box will appear prompting you to insert a blank CD-R or CD-RW. Remove the CD from the drive, then replace it with a CD-R or CD-RW.
- Please wait while Nero Express detects the CD-R or CD-RW. When the disc is detected, the temporary copy will be burned to the disc, and a meter will track the progress of this process.
- When the burning process is complete, a dialog box will appear indicating a successful burn. Click OK.
- Click Next. A window will appear, allowing you to burn another copy of the disc, start a new burning process, or exit Nero Express.

Note
It is illegal to copy a CD without the permission of the copyright holder. Do not copy audio CDs, computer software, or other CDs without express permission from the copyright holder.
Burning an Image File
Nero Express supports a wide range of image file formats, including the popular ISO and IMG formats. Burning an image file creates an exact copy of the original CD used to create the image file.
-
When the Nero Express window appears, click Image, Project, Copy, then Disc Image or Saved Project.
- Select the image file, then click Open.
- Click Burn.
- The CD will begin to burn, and a meter will track the progress of the burning process. If an error appears during this process, carefully read the error message, then correct the issue.
- When the CD has been burned, a dialog box will appear, indicating a successful burn. Click OK.
- Click Next. A window will appear, allowing you to burn another copy of the disc, start a new burning process, or exit Nero Express.
Note
Burning an image file is not the same as burning pictures to a disc. To burn pictures to a disc, follow the instructions for burning a data CD.
Burning a Video CD
Nero Express has the ability to burn a video CD (VCD), which can then be played on a computer or DVD player that supports VCD or SVCD playback. A wide variety of video formats can be used to record a VCD.
-
When the Nero Express window appears, click Videos/Pictures, then Video CD.
- Click Add.
-
Select the file(s) you want to record to the disc, then click Add. Continue this process until you have selected all the files you want to record, then click Close.

- Click Next at the bottom of the window.
- Click Burn.
- The video CD will begin to burn, and a meter will track the progress of the burning process. If an error appears during this process, carefully read the error message, then correct the issue.
- When the burning process is complete, a dialog box will appear, indicating a successful burn. Click OK.
- Click Next. A window will appear, allowing you to burn another copy of the disc, start a new burning process, or exit Nero Express.

Note
It is illegal to burn videos without the permission of the copyright holder.
Note
If your desired video file does not show up in the file selection window, the format of the video is not supported by Nero Express.
