GSview and Ghostscript

Introduction

GSview allows you to display and print documents in PostScript format, a common document format found on the Internet. GSview is a graphical interface for Ghostscript. You must download both GSview and Ghostscript from the GSview web site.

Obtaining GSview

1. If you are obtaining GSview from the UB Tech Tools 2006 CD, continue to step 3. Otherwise, visit the UB Tech Tools Software Downloads page at http://wings.buffalo.edu/computing/software.
   
2. Click Multi Media Players under the Windows heading on the left sidebar, then click GSview & Ghostscript.
   
3. Click Get GSview & Ghostscript.
   
4. Click Obtaining GSview 4.8.
   
5. Click gsv48w32.exe.
   
6. Select Save to Disk, then click OK.
   
7. The Downloads window will appear. If it does not automatically appear, press Ctrl j. When the GSview installer has been downloaded, click Open next to its entry.
   
8. Click Setup.
   
9. When the GSview Install window appears, click Next.
   
10. Click Next to continue.
    
11. Ensure that Associate PostScript (.ps and .eps) files with GSview is selected, then click Next.
    
12. Select a directory in which to install GSview, then click Next. The default directory is recommended.
    
13. Choose the Start Menu options you want to use, then click Finish.
    
14. Please wait while GSview installs on your computer. If you have an older version of GSview installed on your computer, you will be prompted to uninstall it. Click Uninstall, then Exit when the button becomes available.
    
15. When the installation process is complete, click Exit.
    

Obtaining Ghostscript

1. On the GSview home page, click Obtaining AFPL Ghostscript 8.53.
   
2. Scroll down to the Windows section, then click gs853w32.exe.
   
3. Select Save to Disk, then click OK.
   
4. The Downloads window will appear. If it does not automatically appear, press Ctrl j. When the Ghostscript installer has been downloaded, click Open next to its entry.
   
5. You may receive a warning about opening executable files. If so, click OK.
   
6. Click Setup.
   
7. When the AFPL Ghostscript Setup window appears, select a directory in which to install the program, as well as any desired shortcuts, then click Install. The default directory is recommended.
   
8. Please wait while Ghostscript installs. When the installation process is complete, the installer will automatically close.
