Assistive Technology at UB
Documentation table of contents.
Introduction
Assistive Technology at the University at Buffalo offers alternate means of accessing computer software and the Internet. Assistive Technology Stations feature the full suite of software available on Cybrary Stations, plus JAWS screen reading software, Dragon NaturallySpeaking dictation software, and ZoomText screen magnification and screen reading software. They also feature trackball mice and a 21-inch high-resolution monitor. Reader Stations offer the capability of converting printed text or electronic files to MP3 format.
Locations
Assistive Technology Stations are available in Capen first floor Cybrary (two computers), Lockwood second floor Cybrary, Lockwood Library second floor, Health Sciences Library first floor in Abbott Hall, 128 Clement Residence Hall lab, 5 Clinton Residence Hall lab, and 221 Red Jacket Residence Hall lab. In addition, there is an Assistive Technology Station in classrooms located in Baldy 205, Park 143, and Capen 201 (inside the library). Some locations also offer a crank-adjustable table (not necessarily for the same computer). Reader Stations are available in the Capen third floor Cybrary and Diefendorf 207.
Accessing Assistive Software
Assistive Technology-enhanced computers are designated by Assistive Technology Station and Reader Station signs. Anyone at UB may use either Assistive Technology Stations or Reader Stations, and we encourage everyone to test them. However, a policy has been adopted which gives priority to individuals who require those resources.
