Web Folders for Mac
Documentation table of contents.
Introduction
WebDAV allows you to drag-and-drop files to or from your Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5 computer and a web server, such as UBFS space, by creating a Web Folder.
At the University at Buffalo, Web Folders are one of several means of accessing UBFS file space. Users must enter their UBITName and Password to authenticate.
Creating a Web Folder to Files In UBFS
You can create a Web Folder at the UBFS root.
- Establish a connection to the Internet.
Note:
If you are connecting using UB Wireless on campus or from a third-party ISP such as Verizon or Time Warner, you must connect to UBVPN before creating a Web Folder.
- From the Finder, select Go, then Connect to Server.
- In the Server Address field, enter https://ubfs.buffalo.edu/, then click Connect.
- The system will connect.
- Enter your UBITName and Password in the Name and Password fields, respectively. Click OK.
- A window showing the folders in the shared area of UBFS space will open.
Creating a Web Folder to Subfolders in UBFS
If you want to map a link directly on UBFS, follow the steps above, but for Step 3 enter https://ubfs.buffalo.edu/ubfs/myfiles/j/d/jdoe in the Server Address field instead, where j is the first letter of your UBITName, d is the second, and jdoe is your entire UBITName.
The folders in Myfiles include your public_html folder.
If you want to map a link directly to collaboration (shared) file space, enter https://ubfs.buffalo.edu/ubfs/collab.
Adding and Removing Files
You can drag folders or files from your computer or other storage media attached to your computer and drop them onto the Web Folder. You can also drag folders or files from the Web Folder onto your computer.
Changing File Permissions
File permissions cannot be modified through WebDAV. If you have access to a Windows computer or if you can run a Windows emulation program such as Parallels, you can manage file permissions by mapping a drive directly to UBFS.
