Firewall for Mac OS X Version 10.2 and Higher
Documentation table of contents.
Introduction
A firewall is a software application that acts as a protective boundary between a network and the outside world (i.e., the Internet). Mac OS X versions 10.2 and higher include firewall software you can use to restrict what information is communicated between the Internet and your computer.
Enabling the Firewall
- From the Dock or the Apple menu, select System
Preferences.
- In the System Preferences window, under Internet & Network, click
on the Sharing icon.

- Click the Firewall tab.

- Click the Start button.

- The button should
now be labeled Stop and the text above it should say Firewall
On.
The Mac OS X firewall is now enabled. If you need to allow access to
a port, select the box next to the service and port number. If it is not listed,
click the New button
and add it. Each port to which you allow access increases your vulnerability.
