Introduction

AIM Express is a web-based alternative for the popular AOL Instant Messenger. AIM Express allows you to use your AOL Instant Messenger account and buddy lists from any computer. You can use AIM Express to chat with family, friends, and anyone else in the world with AIM. You can also use it to send reference questions to the librarians at the Undergraduate Library.

Using AIM Express

  1. Visit the UB Tech Tools Software Downloads page at http://wings.buffalo.edu/computing/software.
  2. Click Email & Chat Tools under the Macintosh heading on the left sidebar, then click AIM Express.
  3. Click Get AIM Express.
  4. Click the Start button.

  5. If you have a previously registered Screen Name with AOL Instant Messenger, and you have already used it from this computer, it will appear in the Screen Name field. Enter your AIM password in the Password field, then click Submit. If this is not the Screen Name you want to use, or if you do not have a Screen Name, click Sign in with a different Screen Name.
  6. Enter the existing Screen Name and Password you would like to use into the appropriate fields and click Submit. If you do not have an existing Screen Name, click the link Get One Free.

  7. Choose a Desired Screen Name and Password for your new AIM account. In the appropriate fields, enter a valid email address and your birth date. In the dialog box labeled Word Verification, type the word that appears in the image below it. Click Submit. Your registration is complete. Click Continue to begin your AIM Express session.

Ending Your AIM Session

To end an AIM Express session, select Sign Off from the My AIM menu.
