Student Advisement Assistants
In addition to its professional advisors, the College of Arts & Sciences Student Advisement and Services office has five undergraduate Student Assistants. Each assistant is a major in one or more of the various departments in the College of Arts & Sciences. These students are trained in dealing with general education requirements and are updated on new University policies.
Student Advisement Assistants' responsibilities include:
- Assisting students with course scheduling, registration and academic questions
- Marketing the services of the College of Arts & Sciences Student Advisement and Services office
- Presenting workshops on study skills and registration in the College of Arts and Sciences Student Advisement and Services office or in UB 101 classes
- Advising students one-on-one about improving their study skills and habits
- Sitting in on advising appointments with each advisor to observe different advising styles
- Participating in fall and spring open houses, held on one Saturday each semester
- Taking a leadership role in one significant project
- Assisting with office operations as needed
- Keeping a weekly journal to record experiences
