a Coyle and Sharpe transcript
Coyle: Have you ever done any jumping? Man: Jumping? Coyle: Yeah. From heights. Man: No. Sharpe: Not out of planes. Just from heights. Coyle: We're not speaking of parachutes. We can give you the opportunity for a little adventure if you wish. Man: And in jumping what do I jump into? Coyle: Well, that's the thing, there's a certain element of risk. You're going to be jumping from a high building, and uh– Man: What, do I– And what do I do, I just jump? Coyle: You jump. Sharpe: Well, the first time you jump we may have a net there. Man: You may. Sharpe: Yeah. Man: From three stories. Sharpe: Yeah. Coyle: It's a question of whether or not you want adventure. Man: Well, do I want to get killed. Coyle: Well, are you sure you would be killed; are you assuming you'd be killed definitely? Man: I don't know anything about it. Where's the building? What street? How high is it? Is it onto the dirt or is it onto a haystack? Sharpe: Concrete. Man: Concrete? Sharpe: Yeah. Man: Concrete's awful hard. Coyle: We've gotten people to do it. Man: You have. Coyle: And not all of them have been severely injured. Sharpe: You could consider it as a favor. Man: As a favor to you? Sharpe: No, to you. Coyle: To you. Man: A favor to me? Coyle: It's just another favor, bringing you adventure that you wouldn't normally have. Sharpe: Peril. Coyle: peril. Extreme peril. Where your life is in jeopardy. Would you care to jump right now from any building we choose? We'll all got up to a roof. Sharpe: You can do it and we'll watch. Coyle: We get some enjoyment out of watching those who we recruit jump. Sharpe: If you want, we'll take photographs. Coyle: Have an adventure. Take a jump. Take a leap. Man: Will you come with me? Coyle: And make the leap? After you do? Yes. Man: You mean to tell me–You're suggesting to me that I jump–off the top of that building? Coyle: Yes. Man: You're suggesting that to me? Sharpe: Well, it's more than a suggestion; we're making an offer to you. Man: Do you have a card? Coyle: No, we're just two guys who are interested in self-sacrifice. Man: Self- Self-sacrifice to the extent that I'd put my own health and life in jeopardy? Sharpe: We know first aid, we can apply tourniquets, we can apply, uh, splints on broken legs, we've done it before and– Coyle: We can probably stop bleeding. Man: I think you two fellas could sell anybody to do anything. Coyle: Would you do it though? Man: Would I? Coyle: And we'll be there. Sharpe: Watching. Man: I've never been approached like this before in my life. Coyle: We'll do it right now, we'll go up to the roof with you right now, and in fact if you feel reticent about it, if you get to the edge of the roof and you don't want to do it, if you ask as to, we'll push you off. Man: That's big of you. Coyle: Can you deny it would be adventure? Let me ask you that. Man: It's adventure, sure. It's stupidity too. What am I going to do–stand up there and jump off. Do you think I'm crazy? Sharpe: What's crazy about it? I don't understand. Man: Would you go stand up on top of that roof and jump down to that concrete? Sharpe: Yes, I would. Man: Go do it–then I'll follow you. Coyle: Will you follow him if he jumps without a net? Will you really follow him? Man: You'll go up to the top of that building and jump? Sharpe: Sure. Why not?
