IVSA & Dopamine Involvement

• Drugs that enhance dopamine activity are generally self-administered

• Dopamine agonists

  • priming injection
    • reinitiate responding
    • lengthen IRT to next SA injection

• Dopamine antagonists

  • low doses of neuroleptics increase responding
  • high doses of neuroleptics produce an extinction burst followed by a cessation of responding
