UB Architecture transfer and re-entry applications:

>> Architecture Transfer and Re-Entry Checklist

Non-UB transfer students and current UB students should consult directly with UB's School of Architecture and Planning Advisement at [ap-advising@buffalo.edu] for information regarding applying for transfer admission or re-entry consideration to the Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BS Arch):

  1. Non-UB transfer students must FIRST apply to the University at Buffalo no later than February 15 via the UB Undergraduate Transfer Admissions Application and meet the University at Buffalo's transfer admission requirements.

  2. Non-UB international transfer students must FIRST apply to the University at Buffalo no later than February 15 through the UB International Admissions Undergraduate Transfer Application and meet the University at Buffalo's international transfer admission requirements;

  3. Both current UB students and non-UB transfer students must complete the departmental Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BS Arch) Transfer Admission and Re-Entry Application form, due February 28 for Fall admission consideration.

  4. Current UB students must use the Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BS Arch) Transfer Admission and Re-Entry Application as they are applying to 'transfer' into the academic program;

  5. The required Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BS Arch) Academic Letter of Recommendation form MUST accompany the BS Arch transfer admission and re-entry application;

  6. Non-UB transfer students MUST submit a portfolio of creative work to be considered for sophomore year studio placement;

  7. IMPORTANT: Non-UB transfer students or current UB students applying for freshmen year studio placement ARE NOT required to submit a portfolio of creative work if the have little or no collegiate design/studio education; and,

  8. Applications from either current UB students and non-UB transfer students received after February 28 will be reviewed on a space-only available basis until May 31. No additional transfer or re-entry application material will be reviewed after May 31.

The UB Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BS Arch) is a Fall-only admission program. The UB Department of Architecture will not accept or process applications for BS Arch Spring admission.

A minimum GPA of 2.5 in architecture and architecture-related courses and a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 is required for admission consideration, with competitive admission on a space-available basis. Minimum SAT, ACT, and TOEFL scores may be required for studio enrollment. Contact the UB's School of Architecture and Planning Advisement at [ap-advising@buffalo.edu] for additional information.

>> Architecture Academic Program Preparation

Intended Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BS Arch) students should prepare themselves in the areas of:

>> Freehand drawing, manual drafting, studio art, technical drawing, advanced studio art, sculpting, and 2-D + 3-D design;

>> In addition, the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture recommends courses in urban studies, world cultures, and art history;

>> Graphic design, model making, ceramics production, metal working, as well as many other visual skills are taught in the Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BS Arch) program, but students who have some earlier studio preparation may find it easier to succeed in design coursework; and,

>> Many of the building technology and design courses required in the UB Department of Architecture depend upon prior knowledge of physics and calculus, and physics and calculus are prerequisites for the structures/construction courses in architecture. Students may fulfill these prerequisites with successful completion of Advanced Placement high school calculus and physics, or successful completion of college calculus and physics.

In addition, all students are required to positively affirm their knowledge of, and adherence to, UB's Student Conduct Rules, University Standards and Administrative Regulations prior to their inaugural semester at UB. Asserting a lack of knowledge of university regulations will not be accepted as a basis for an exception to these regulations.
