- Sub-Board Grant for Computers- The GSA awarded the AGSA $750.00 to purchase two new computers for the graduate lounge, which will be purchased within the next month or two. In addition, more grants are available in the Spring and also Fall of 2009, so there is potential to build the computer lab further. The club will have to decide how to use the other monies encumbered at the previous meetings for computer lab purposes, but this will be decided at the next meeting.
Voted to encumber $750.00 received to buy new computers- Unanimous
- Printer Issues- The large printer is out of toner; however, please do not email the department to get these issues fixed, email Amber or Ben regarding technical issues. The other smaller printer works- it is an HP1300, to print you have to select HP1100 on the pull down menu on the computer. As of right now, there is no charge for using the printer in the lounge. This will have to change if people use the computer to print out articles or anything larger than papers for class. The club does not have funds to continually buy materials for the printer.
Voted to encumber $80.00 for printing cartridge- Unanimous
- Health Behavior Department giving seminar called "Posture-Instinct or Influence?" There will be a lecture at South Campus with this same name, and two yoga classes, beginning and masters class, offered at North Campus in the evening on Monday, February 16th.
Voted to encumber $25.00 to co-sponser- 3 abstentions, 9 yes votes, will co-sponser.
- Coffee Hours- Money was encumbered at the last meeting. The first coffee hour held on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, from 11am-1pm. There will also be at least one more this semester; please see listserv for additional updates.
- Spring Speaker Series: The club has to apply for grants in support of the series by mid-January, so we need to get started thinking about organization. If you would like to volunteer for one of the subgroups (Archaeology, Cultural Anthropology, Biological Anthropology), please contact Amber. The grants will help pay for airfare, tolls, and an honorarium, etc., for the speaker.
- Kate Whalen will be organizing a behind the scenes tour of the Buffalo Science Museum early next semester for those interested in attending. There are a lot of ethnographic materials at the museum that will be available for viewing. Please watch the listserv for updates.
- Faculty Meeting Update: Tuition costs will be rising next year. In addition, there will be new tracking forms for PhD students every year, to cut down on rates of disappearance.
- GSA and GSEU Updates: There is a fundraising opportunity to sell books at a book fair organized through the GSA, and then receive a portion of the funds back. The GSA also was voting regarding conference monies to be awarded at the last meeting.
There has still been no contact with the lawyers regarding contracts for union members. There was a poster party to design posters for a demonstration. It was suggested that TAs email Kathleen Sims separately to ask about the contract to help in pushing things along. Her email is ksims@cwa1104.com.
- IEMA Update: We are trying to get a graduate student representative position with voting rights for IEMA. There has also been a discussion of the classics department also having a student voting position. This issue will be addressed at the next IEMA business meeting.
In addition, there is interest in getting students to do presentations about their work. Possible avenues are reinstating the "Brown Bag" lunches, and also getting in touch with undergraduate clubs to present the work that graduate students are doing.
