
AGSA Minutes - January 14, 2008
- Attendance:
Amber Kling, Ray Whitlow, Patrick Fazioli, Ashley Hansen, Tera Thompson, Brandon Lundy, Dustin Keeler, Jen Foster, Katie Neilson, Ben Kamphaus, Mia Jorgensen, Rachel Dwyer.
- Speaker Series: Tentative plans for speakers- Archaeology: Clark Erickson, Physical: Nina Jablonsky, Cultural: Montgomery McFate. Awaiting final voting and conformation. With three co-sponsors, the club can apply for additional funding.
- Voted to encumber $400.00 for the Spring Speaker Series- unanimous.
- Voted to encumber $50.00 for printer paper- unanimous.
- Voted to encumber $70.00 for coffee hours this semester- unanimous. Schedules for the coffee hours to be announced soon.
- Grand Opening of IEMA and the IEMA Visiting Scholar Conference will take place this semester- April 3, 4, and 5.
- Stephen Colbert will be visiting the university in April- free tickets will be available to students.
- Union Update: Mia Jorgensen- there is still no representative/president for the university; anyone interested can step up to this open position.
- Faculty Committee Update: Ashley Hansen- first meeting will be Friday, Jan, 18.
- Brown Bag Series: Jen Foster will coordinate a brown bag in which recently hired professors/post-docs can discuss interviewing techniques, publishing and what to expect after graduating.
- The club would like to hold informal get-togethers during the semester- potential location for one is the Sterling; if anyone has other suggestions, feel free to take the initiative in contacting the listserv.
- IGERT Colloquiums: Some guests will be coming from out of state who might be of interest to the anthropology department:
Feb. 15- Michael Frachetti, discussing his applications of GIS for work in Kazakhstan.
Scott Branting will also return to the University to give a talk in March- dates will be posted on the listserv.
In the future, we will possibly encumber money for an honorarium if the speakers could give a departmental talk in addition to the IGERT talk.
