  4. New rule: all money must be encumbered at meetings, we can no longer encumber money through the listserv, therefore, we need to be on top of this at the meetings to ensure that we don.t have to call emergency meetings to encumber money for upcoming events.

  5. Fall Picnic: Friday September 7, 2007 3:00 PM in the Ellicott Picnic Area by the rugby field and Red Jacket- an email will be sent with additional information
    1. Department is contributing $50, we voted to encumber $150 for food and drinks for the picnic . unanimous decision
  6. First GSA Meeting is September 5, 2007- we need at least 2 people to show up for this meeting- Denice Szafran and June Carrington volunteered, but anyone else is welcome to attend as well. It.s a great opportunity to see how the GSA works. The meeting is at 7:00 PM in room 330 in the Student Union.

  7. Please remember to lock the Grad Lounge when you leave, it has been found open. First year students, if you do not have a key, please see Margaret and you can get one for a $5 deposit.

  8. There are 2 listservs:
    1. APY GRAD STUDENTS: official listserv of the department, this is seen by all grad students, Margaret, Dr. Pollock, and Stacey
    2. AGSA List: more informal, students only (no faculty can see)- email hjarvis@buffalo.edu to be added to the AGSA list Please use caution when replying to listserv messages, and make sure you are replying to the appropriate people, rather than the entire list.

  9. IRB storage- The department cannot store IRB documents, please discuss this with your individual advisor for further questions/guidance.

  10. Dr. Lawrence Schell, bio-cultural anthropologist, who was supposed to be in our Spring Speaker series and was unable to make it, will be coming this fall at some point to give his talk. Please keep an eye on the listserv for dates/times.

  11. New postdoc, Dr. Doug Bolender is here for the IEMA (Institute for European and Mediterranean Archaeology), and he would like to meet with the grad students- we will post the date/time for a happy hour when we can meet with him.

  12. The IGERT Colloquium series (GIS interdisciplinary organization) is being organized by Ben Kamphaus- if you know anyone who does GIS research who may be interested in coming and speaking, please email Ben- bek3@buffalo.edu.
