AGSA Minutes - February 17, 2007
- The meeting was called to order by Patrick Fazioli at 11:05 A.M.
- Attendance:
Michelle Bellino, Dustin Keeler, Patrick Fazioli, Katie Neilson, Ben Kamphaus, Matt Perry, Dan Cadzow, Mia Jorgensen, Ray Whitlow, Michele Hengle.
- Discussion of Graduate Lounge Problems
- A vote was taken to encumber $150.00 to purchase 3 wireless cards to restore internet capacities in the grad lounge computers. Vote was unanimous to encumber the money.
- A decision was made to throw away the old computer that was used as the printing network computer, and use the next oldest computer in the lounge to set up a new network. There is a possibility that Dr. Duggleby may be able to donate a computer to the lounge.
- There has been an ongoing discussion about redecorating/cleaning up the grad lounge. We may not be allowed to paint, but we can hang new posters on the walls. We are allowed to throw away old trash that is lying around, but not the appliances, as that requires a special approval form. It was suggested that we use a weekend in March to decorate- perhaps Saturday March 10, before Spring Break. A vote was taken to encumber $100.00 for this project for supplies, snacks, etc.. Vote was unanimous to encumber the money.
- Institute for European & Mediterranean Archaeology (IEMA)
- Reminder: if you want to join Institute for European & Mediterranean Archaeo (IEMA), email tpena@buffalo.edu, the head of IEMA.
- Ben Kamphaus was unanimously voted as the Interim AGSA rep for IEMA. This will become an official AGSA position next year, in the Fall of 2007.
- The department will also be receiving a post-doc through the IEMA program
- Spring Speaker Series
- The GSA Senate gave us full funding for our Spring Speaker Series, so all is going forward as planned
- We are still waiting to hear from the physical students who has been selected as their speaker. The cultural and archaeology speakers are posted on the department website.
- Miscellaneous Announcements
- If you have any announcements about speakers/events, etc. please email Candie Syphrit so that they may be posted on the department website
- Departmental coffee hours will continue this semester. A vote was held to encumber $65 for the next 2 coffee hours. Vote was unanimous to encumber the money. The department has agreed to fund another 2, after those. Dates are TBA, keep your eyes on the listserve for additional announcements.
- It was suggested that we participate in a group volunteer/ community service activity sometime in March. The more members who participate, the more likely we are to receive an extra $500.00 in funding from the GSA for our club. Keep your eyes on the listserve for an email from Patrick Fazioli providing further details.
- The cultural job candidates were briefly mentioned. The lunch with Dr. Andrea Smith on Feb. 13 was cancelled due to weather. Apparently the 1-2 positions are not yet definite, so there was no need to discuss further details at this time.
- Meeting was adjourned by Patrick Fazioli at 12:10 PM.
Repectfully submitted,
Bonnie Vest (notes were taken by Michelle Bellino, as I was unable to attend the meeting due to the weather.)
