AGSA Minutes - May 5, 2006
Attendance
Matt Perry, Mark Frankel, Nathan Grassi, Emily Hammerl, Jacklyn Ramsey, Patrick Fazioli, Matt Smith, Lori Eldridge, Brandon Lundy, TaeWoo Kim.
- TAs and GAs will be paid through mid-June. Be sure that Margaret has a current address to mail any remaining checks out.
- A welcome packet for incoming students is being assembled, for mailing in mid-June. Any submissions should be directed to Margaret. We are expecting nearly 30 new students.
- If you are interested in being a "mentor" for one of the incoming students, please contact Lori Eldridge (lee22@buffalo.edu) who will be steering the pairing off of new students with continuing students.
- The GSA will be offering a new grant for next year. $500 is offered for clubs to engage in "Non-profit outreach and assistance." Get thinking over the summer on ways that the AGSA might utilize this funding to give a little back to the community.
- Fridays at Four was once again a great success. It was suggested that next year, each subfield be allotted an amount of money to arrange for one speaker. This would amount to one speaker per month, possibly allowing for greater turnout and faculty involvement.
- It was unanimously agreed that the Tuesday morning coffee hours should continue next semester. With co-sponsorship from the department, this is an inexpensive way that we can help to facilitate faculty-student interaction outside of the classroom.
- The department commencement ceremony is on May 12th- hope to see you there!
- $25 was unanimously encumbered to the Classics dept. GSA in co-sponsorship of their upcoming conference titled "Religious Authority in the Ancient Mediterranean." Robert Garland from Colgate University will be the keynote speaker. The conference will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2006. Further information to follow.
- The end of the year picnic will be Saturday, May 13 at 1:00pm, at Brandon Lundy's house: 274 Fairways Blvd; Williamsville 14221. $100 was encumbered unanimously to Brandon for food, and $50 was encumbered unanimously to Lori Eldridge for additional food. Directions will be sent to the listserve.
- The Fall picnic is tentatively scheduled for Friday, August 25th at 4:00pm. The picnic will be off campus this year, with the location TBD.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 am. The next meeting will be announced on the listserv.
Repectfully submitted,
Emily Hammerl
