AGSA Minutes - March 21, 2005
In Attendance:
Jacklyn Ramsey, Stephanie Boyd, Brandon Lundy, Lori Eldridge, Tom Brunton, Christopher Wahlfeld, Matthew Smith, Emily Hammerl, Nneka Black, Amanda Shero, Counsel Ionica, Elias Rotsos.
- A representative for Patricia Mahomond came to ask for our support in her campaign for the GSA Presidential office. He has posted a flyer in the Grad lounge. Voting will be on April 11 & 12 on the North Campus and on April 13 on the South Campus.
- Regarding the Fridays at Four speaker's series, it was unanimously decided to give a $100 honorarium to David Begun who will lecture on April 15, and a $100 honorarium to Yohannes Haile-Selassie who will lecture on April 29. It was also agreed unanimously to encumber $65 for a hotel room for Dr. Haile-Selassie.
- The first year qualifying examinations are not scheduled at the same time this year, so it was unanimously decided to encumber $50 for the Archaeology typing party on April 27 and also $50 for the Physical party on May 2 for food and beverages.
- An end of the year party is scheduled for Saturday, May 7th, with an exact time and location to be decided. Unanimous vote allocated $150 for food and beverages.
- The AGSA will donate $100 to our Graduate student publication, The Chronicles in the hopes that the department will match our donation. This was agreed by all present.
- Due to the poor state of the copying machine in the grad lounge, the idea was presented that we attempt to bargain with the department for use of their machines. It was agreed unanimously that if the department will accept the offer, that the AGSA will encumber $100 per semester in exchange for copying privileges for all graduate students. Nneka Black has agreed to present this proposal at the next faculty meeting.
- All present voted to encumber $100 to Amanda Shero for the purchase of a toner cartridge for the HP printer in the grad lounge. Due to the high cost of toner, the HP printer should only be used for final drafts. All other printouts should be on the older printer (the default print setting). Furthermore, as we are going through one toner cartridge per semester, anyone who uses the printers is kindly reminded to make a donation towards their maintenance, to be given to Amanda Shero whose office is in the lounge. The suggested donation per semester is $4.
- Finally, Lori Eldridge asked for any suggestions for the revision of "The Best of Buffalo" that is sent out to incoming students. Especially needed are housing suggestions including suggestions of landlords, realtors, etc. Please e-mail ideas to lee22 @ buffalo.edu
- The meeting was adjourned at 2:00pm, the next meeting will be announced on the AGSA list serve.
Repectfully submitted,
Emily Hammerl,
AGSA Secretary
