AGSA Minutes - April 14, 2004
In Attendance:
Brandon Lundy, Ellen Eschwege, Geoff Carver, Glorimar Pagan, Eva Hulse, Lori Eldridge, Amanda Shero, Michael Roets, Heather Fried, Roli Bansal
- The first topic of discussion was whether to allow attachments on the listserv again. After much discussion, it was decided that an on-line vote would commence that day and end, Monday April 19, 2004 at 5pm. Emails to be directed to Heather Fried.
- Rebecca Cuddahee, along with Dr. Steegmann, proposed that an exit survey be conducted when undergraduate students graduate in order to document career paths anthropology students choose. This information could be used in the future to promote enrollment, as well as publicize our department. Glorimar Pagan, the AGSA representative on the faculty committee, will bring this idea up at the next faculty meeting and we will further discuss the issue after some feedback.
- There are two positions available for AGSA members on the faculty committee. Currently, we only have one representative. Another representative will be elected for next year.
- $75 was voted upon and encumbered to Roli Bansal for beer and pizza for the Qualifying Exam typing party. There are 8 archaeology and 5 physical first year students. The exam is Wednesday, April 28th at 9a.m. It will end at 1p.m. If you have a laptop that can be used, and/or are willing to type, please notify Heather Fried. Come support the first years!
- An end of the year picnic is going to scheduled. Date and time are TBA. Tentatively, the location is Brandon Lundy's house, but Renee Cadzow will also be approached for a secondary locale. $150 was voted upon and encumbered to Brandon Lundy for food and drink.
- This week: April 19-April 23 is Secretary's week. $18 was voted upon and encumbered to Katie Biggie for T-shirts to be ordered for the secretaries.
- Lori Eldridge will be the graduate coordinator, working with Margaret, for the fall picnic/orientation for incoming students.
- This Thursday, April 22 will be Dr. Steegmann's last lecture, as he is retiring this year. His class is from 9:30-10:50, but at about 10:30 a few graduate students will be presenting him with a plaque in his class, and a reception will follow in Spaulding 158, or the dry lab. If you would like to contribute, there will be a pot-luck style brunch at that time, any donations are welcome. Please come join us in celebrating Dr. Steegmann's excellence in teaching over the course of his career!
The meeting was adjourned at 1:45p.m. The next meeting will be announced on the AGSA listserv.
Repectfully submitted,
Roli Bansal,
AGSA Secretary
