The meeting began with introductions: of Margaret Kasprzyk, the new graduate secretary, of Hugh Jarvis, the webmaster and listserve owner, and of everyone else to each other.

The next item discussed was issues that had already arisen in the new semester. People were told to talk with Margaret if they needed offices. The change of mailboxes (from one per person to several people sharing one mailbox) was briefly discussed, but no one was dissatisfied enough to file some sort of request for change. After a short discussion concerning the design of a departmental t-shirt, Katie Biggie volunteered to head up the project (seek a design and organize an order). Volunteers signed up to help out at the Fall Picnic, and it was agreed to schedule a lounge clean-up time later in the semester.

Announcements came next. The event schedule for the Center for Teaching and Learning will be posted on the bulletin board in the graduate lounge, as will the GSA handbook. The first GSA senate meeting on September 3 was announced, as were the two grant-writing workshops for the Mark Diamond Research Fund. Students who have received a MDRF grant in the past gave a few words of advice.

With that, a constitutional amendment was proposed and voted on. The amendment reads as follows:

"Article IV, section h. The AGSA will elect a representative for the Graduate Student Grievance Committee and a GSEU mobilizer."a
A secret ballot was taken, and the amendment was approved with fifteen yays and one abstention.

Nominations for the AGSA officers were taken by Eva Hulse. The following people were nominated:

President: Lori Eldridge, Heather Fried
Vice-president: Heather Fried, Brandon Lundy
Secretary: Roli Bansal, Sharon Zollner
Treasurer: Stephanie Boyd, Amanda Shero
Faculty Committee: Lori Eldridge, Glorimar Pagan
Graduate Committee: Katie Biggie
Curriculum Committee: Rod Salisbury
Undergraduate Committee: Patty Barrientos, Mike Roets
Senators: Dan Grover, Carina Iezzi, Alex Priebe
Alternates: Renee Cadzow, Carina Iezzi
GSEU mobilizer: Gemmae Fix
Graduate Student Grievance Committee: Brandon Lundy
Ballots will be distributed electronically and in people’s mailboxes, and the results will be announced next Saturday, September 6, at the picnic.

Sever Ionica volunteered to be the computer/copier point man.

The floor was then opened to any other business. Geoff Carver presented a grievance with a departmental decision, and asked what role the AGSA might be willing to play. After some discussion, it was agreed that Geoff would continue to pursue his grievance, and if needed, the AGSA would talk at a later date about acting as a group to ask more detailed clarification of departmental policies regarding requirements and grading.

Dave ?, the president of the undergraduate club, announced their first meeting at 6:00 on Wednesday, September 3, in room 354. Mike Roets agreed to attend. The undergraduate club wishes to partner with the AGSA in presenting a lecture series. They will be in contact as more details are solidified and the new officers of the AGSA are elected.

Brandon Lundy asked for money to attend the American Anthropological Association's annual meeting in Chicago in November, and his request was denied.

At 2:20, the meeting was adjourned.

Repectfully submitted,

Heather Fried,
AGSA President
