- We are planning a Halloween party for the weekend closest to Halloween. The place has not yet been determined, any volunteers? We will allocate $50 for food and $50 for beer.
- AAA's are later this month. Please let us know if you are attending.
- there is a one time only $250 grant from GSA available to students. anyone interested needs to request funds from AGSA, be refused, and then request funds from GSA. this grant can only be used for certain expenses i.e. airfare. any questions, contact AGSA.
- AAA dry run for Michelle Albus, who will be presenting and anyone else. Date TBA
- Wed. October 9th- article discussion. Lori Eldridge will pick the article and it will be available online and in the AGSA mailbox. the discussion will be at Renee's house, time TBA
- Cindy Tysick is the social science librarian, feel free to contact her for any assistance. she also recommended that we write a grant for the library. Mike Roets will discuss this and related library issues with Prof. Milisauskas.
- Last year, AGSA purchased a map that needs to be posted. it is very big and we are having trouble finding a place for it. there may be a wall in the grad lounge that it will fit on, but we need to clean out the grad lounge, get rid of all of the stuff we don't use or is broken and organize it a bit. we will also try to hang the map at this time. friday at 1pm meet in the grad lounge and help out, if you can. we will be ordering PIZZA and stuff.
- AGSA would like to give back to our community. any suggestions for volunteering opportunities? some ideas that have been brought up are:
- going to local middle and high schools and talk to students about the different aspects of anthropology.
- bringing students here and showing them around our department.
- Jenn Randall and Lori Eldridge will be coordinating this, so if you have ideas or would like to join in the planning, contact them.
- Brown Bag Colloquium Series - we would like to meet every 2 weeks at a time the is to be determined. we will meet somewhere on campus, bring lunches and listen to/discuss presentations that people are working on and presenting for some time in the future. you could also present something that you've already done a presentation on, whatever you want. the first presenter will be Matt Belvins. please let us know what time is good for those interested. the following week, Mike Roets and possibly Kathy Leacock will be presenting.
- There is discussion on contacting the other departments that are also based in Elicott and request for more bike racks around the complex.
- Geoff Carver is going to contact the university about increasing efficiency of Bus service between north and south campus.
- AGSA is going to do some research and make some requests to have internet access in grad lounge offices as well as other grad student offices.
- Matt Blevins would like to set up a wireless network in the grad lounge.
Repectfully submitted,
Roli Bansal,
Secretary
