AGSA Minutes - October 22, 1999
In Attendance:
Jen Trunzo, Mark
Carpenter, Dan Mazeau, Katie Ainsworth, Sonja Schwake, Dave Volin, Sue
Maguire, Karen Niemel, Chuck Riley, and Bill McFarlane
New Business:
- Halloween Party will be held on Oct. 30, 1999 at 95 Winspear. AGSA
allotted $100 for refreshments. Sue Maguire will use $50 to buy food. Bill
McFarlane will use $50 to buy beverages.
- Symposia and Colloquia
- Discussion centered around finding people who might want to speak
to our faculty and students. Question was raised regarding who
may have contacts with big name speakers or who might know
people who would be willing to travel to Buffalo and give a
talk. If ANYBODY has any recommendations or preferences for
speakers, tell one of the AGSA officers or present the ideas at
a future meeting.
- The African Art Symposia is being co-sponsored by AGSA. This
will be held on Nov. 6, 1999 at UB. There are weekly
organizational meetings which are open to anybody who wants to
be involved. There is always room for the efforts of more
volunteers to assure that the symposia goes off without a
hitch. Ask Bill McFarlane for more info if you want to get
involved.
- The Yoruba Woodcarving Exhibit (which is also being
co-sponsored by AGSA) also needs more volunteers.
- The possibility of hosting a symposia on Directions and
Methodologies in Historiography was posed. All in attendance
seemed to think is a good idea. It was agreed that it might be
something to begin organizing this year so that it could take
place next year.
- Concerns were voiced regarding how to accommodate potential
guest speakers and how to pay for their transporation to and
from Buffalo.
- Union Steward for the Anthro Dept. for the GSEU.
Dave Nolin volunteered to take on this responsibility and he was
unanimously approved to do so. University financial problems were
discussed in the context of the potential impact these
difficulties may have on funding for GA and TA positions.
Meeting was adjourned at 11:00am.
Repectfully submitted,
Jennifer Trunzo,
AGSA Secretary.
